Stacked Memories

My mind is a cave

What once was

An empty cave

Has been filled.

Stacked memories

Line the walls

Toppled towers

Lie dormant

Dusty piles

Mixed with

Ephemeral ideas.

In the corner sits

A lonely child

Taking inventory

Each day he turns

Another page

Wondering when

This book will end

.

There was once a door

To exit the cave

The child would come

And go as he pleased

But the more he explored

The scarier it became

So he constructed a wall

To keep out the monsters

And pushed stacks

Of forbidden memories

In front of the door

To keep himself safe

But years have gone by

The exit now lost

He cannot escape
